Allergies when Utilising MIMS Integration
As part of installing MIMS, a series of 'MIMS Allergy classes' are created (Administration>Patients>Alerts and Allergies>MIMS). Any existing allergies exist for patients these would need to be re-classified under these categories for proper auto-checking.
Steps add an Allergen
1. Dashboard
2. Open Patient
3. Alerts and Allergies
4. Click New in the Allergies section
5. Search for an allergy in the dropdown. This will display MIMS and non-MIMS allergy.
Important note:
- If a patient has an active/existing non-MIMs allergy, when raising a MIMS prescription a warning message is displayed, advising that "Patient has 1 allergy that is not linked to MIMS Allergies. Manual drug checking is required."
- If a patient has a MIMS allergy, and a drug is added to a MIMS prescription with that allergen, then a message like the following appears:
- Allergy Warning Patient may be allergic to the prescribing item, BenPen Powder for injection (Powder for injection) 600 mg (solv. req'd) [1].
- Allergy history: The patient has a known history of allergic reaction to SubstanceClass, Penicillins.
- The molecule of the prescribing item BenPen Powder for injection (Powder for injection) 600 mg (solv. req'd) [1], belongs to the substance class of Benzylpenicillin sodium.
No warnings appear when adding a medication to a patient's current medications (using the 'MIMS New' button) or when using the 'MIMS Browse' function.
