MIMS Database
Please contact Clintel about using the MIMS database to standardise your medications listing within CareRight. You will need an account/license from MIMS to be able to use this integration via CareRight.
Utilising MIMS
As part of installing MIMS, a series of 'MIMS Allergy classes are created (Administration>Patients>Alerts and Allergies>MIMS). Any existing allergies exist for patients these would need to be re-classified under these categories for proper auto-checking.
However, the following processes apply: If a patient has an active/existing non-MIMs allergy, when raising a MIMS prescription a warning message is displayed, advising:
- The patient has 1 allergy that is not linked to MIMS Allergies. Manual drug checking is required.
- If a patient has a MIMS allergy, and a drug is added to a MIMS prescription with that allergen, then a message like the following appears:
- Allergy Warning Patient may be allergic to the prescribing item, BenPen Powder for injection (Powder for injection) 600 mg (solv. req'd) [1].
- Allergy history: The patient has a known history of an allergic reaction to SubstanceClass, Penicillins.
- The molecule of the prescribing item BenPen Powder for injection (Powder for injection) 600 mg (solv. req'd) [1], belongs to the substance class of Benzylpenicillin sodium.
No warnings appear when adding a medication to a patient's current medications (using the 'MIMS New' button) or when using the 'MIMS Browse' function.
Viewing Previous Prescriptions
From the Medications page, click the Previous Prescriptions tab.
Warning badges and functionality include:
- Interaction Warning: The medication may potentially interact with another prescribed medication;
- Authority Badge: Dispensation of the medication requires approval;
- Show: Click to view the prescription's details; and,
- Repeat: Click to create a duplicate copy of the prescription for re-prescribing purposes (see Repeating a Prescription below).
Preference Drugs (v6.64 Enhancement)
When adding a drug to a prescription, the Preference Prescribing History field (selected by default) will prioritise search results in this order:
- Drugs previously prescribed by the same provider (regardless of the patient);
- Drugs prescribed in the last 12 months; and,
- All other drugs that match the search criteria per current ordering rules.
Updating Instructions or Expiring Medications
You can choose to expire any medications which are no longer valid for a patient, or you change the instructions if necessary. From Current Medications, select Update Instructions or Expire. Selecting either of these options will automatically make that medication appear in Medications History. Choosing Update Instructions will enable you to enter and save a different instruction.
When Logged On as a Medical Provider (new v6.64 feature)
If you are the Medical Provider who is responsible for the prescription, when you log on to CareRight the new prescription workflow will be streamlined to enable you to immediately select medications (instead of having to click Add Drug).
