There are a few circumstances where a patient is required to be admitted in CareRight even though that admission does not meet the necessary requirements to be considered an admission for statutory purposes.
The common ones are:
- The health fund allows for certain Outpatient services to be claimed via the In-Hospital Claims process. There is specific support in the IHC process to allow these types of claims.
- Some DVA services are claimable via IHC, but delivered as Outpatient.
- The client may want to track both inpatient and outpatient occupancy of the facility.
Recording Outpatient Admission Status
The IHC process has means to record these types of admissions by designating that the "Same Day Status" code be set to 9. This is the indication that CareRight will use to identify that an Admission is actually a non-admitted service (outpatient). Ensure Same day status is set to Outpatient fro a patient admission.
Display of Outpatient Status
When viewing an Admission and the Same Day Status = Outpatient then display the following warning message: "This admission has been marked s Outpatient and will not be reported to statutory bodes of health funds".
On the location occupancy screen, "Outpatient" will display in the Pending column. Other pending values include:
- (blank) => Outpatient,
- Discharge => Discharge Outpatient,
- Transfer => Transfer Outpatient
- Admission Coding Screen has a separate column for Ungrouped Outpatients.
Statutory Reporting
When running a statutory report, if the period for the report includes any Outpatient admissions display the following warning message: "This report will exclude xx admissions marked as Outpatient".
- The Show button next to the warning message will load the report summary screen, but with Outpatient admissions.
- The existing summary screens exclude outpatient admission from the list.
- When generating statutory reports the admission will be excluded. This includes Cancer Reporting reports based on admissions (e.g. Queensland).
Handling VAED
If the admission was previously reported to the VAED then changes to Outpatient it must be deleted in the next VAED report.
General Reporting
- The standard inbuilt admission report needs to include the "Same Day Status" field
- The inbuilt Midnight Census Report now has an additional filter to exclude outpatient admissions.
